The Literal Commandment

The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your G-d and walk in His ways. (Deuteronomy 28:9)

The literal commandment is to keep the commandments of G-d and walk in His ways [literally "paths"].

Messiah Says

Messiah implicitly affirmed this commandment when He spoke about the Law:

Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19)

He also explicitly affirms this commandment:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6)

Pictures of Messiah

This commandment pictures Messiah because He not only walked in all the commandments of G-d and "emulated" Him, Yeshua is the radiance of G-d's glory and the exact representation of G-d's nature (Hebrews 1:3). In a world too small to contain the transcendent G-d Who created it, Yeshua is the perfect expression of G-d in this world. In Him the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form (Colossians 2:9).

When we follow this commandment and emulate G-d's ways then it is no longer we who live but Messiah lives in us (Galatians 2:20).

How Messiah Fulfilled

Messiah obeyed all the commandments completely and was without sin (Hebrews 4:15).

When Philip asked Yeshua to reveal Father G-d, He was taken aback:

Jesus said to him, "Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?" (John 14:9)

Yeshua emulated G-d's ways perfectly and in doing so revealed the heart, the character, and the nature of G-d.

Traditional Observance

Traditional observance of this commandment is to walk in the ways of G-d by obeying His laws, judgments, and rulings given in the Law of Moses.

Other Notes

We are able to fulfill this commandment today and we should emulate G-d's ways.

Thus says the LORD, "Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls. (Jeremiah 6:16a)
