The Literal Commandment

Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets. (Numbers 29:1)

The literal commandment is that the first day of the seventh month (Yom Teruah) shall be a day for blowing trumpets.

Messiah Says

Messiah implicitly affirmed this commandment when He spoke about the Law:

"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19)

Pictures of Messiah

In Scripture, the "trumpets" that are mentioned are usually a ram's horn called a shofar. These are used to signal a gathering or announce the arrival of the king. Messiah has revealed the full meaning of the Biblical festivals of the spring months in His first coming. The full meaning of the fall festivals will be revealed when Messiah returns. It is this "Feast of Trumpets" that will mark His return with the sound of a great trumpet announcing the arrival of the King.

How Messiah Fulfilled

Messiah fulfilled this commandment by hearing the ram's horn on the Feast of Trumpets.

Traditional Observance

The traditional observance of this commandment involves hearing 100 different blasts of a ram's horn shofar on the Feast of Trumpets.

Other Notes

We are able to fulfill this commandment and should hear the ram's horn on the Feast of Trumpets.
